Antique Moroccan Ceramic Inkwell - Candle Holder on Silver Stand (c1940)

£88

Antique inkwells are part of the Moroccan history books we believe. One cannot find an antique store in Morocco without an inkwell piece they treasure. The very few ceramic terracotta inkwells that have survived the years were first introduced in the 19th century and continued to have the same design as a trademark for Moroccan ceramic inkwells.

Against all the odds of finding one of these gems in a decent enough condition, we got our hands on this unique piece. A rare design has this piece on a solid heavy silver stand unlike other ceramic inkwells seen. The inkwell is beautifully hand-painted and is in a good condition despite its age. A similar design was spotted in the British Museum online collection.

Nowadays, such inkwells can be repurposed in various ways including turning them into candle holders for your dinner table or a centre piece to have your flowers in.
